This gallery captures some of the WWII planes that were used in the 8 May Flyover of the WWII Memorial as well as the 5 WWII planes that were flown to the Udvar-Hazey Museum at Dulles on 9 May. Hazy weather and long distances to the aircraft on the 8th made photography difficult even with telephoto lenses. Poor weather early in the day on the 9th then limited the number of planes that could fly to the Udvar-Hazey Museum, but offered much better viewing of the aircraft and their departures. A number of WWII veterans were present at Udvar-Hazey who had a chance to talk with pilots and visitors alike. A number of jeeps and tents were set up on the grass adjacent to the taxi strip and were tended by folks in period uniforms. This is where the crowd was confined as the planes were brought in and again when they left. We had a brief glimpse of the planes as they began their climb after takeoff from Dulles.
